By assembling best-of-breed components, commerce leaders can innovate faster, control costs, and adapt quickly to market changes
In today’s fast moving digital landscape, flexibility and speed are essential. Traditional monolithic commerce platforms can slow innovation, be expensive, and make it difficult to integrate emerging technologies. That’s where a composable architecture excels.
Agility: launch in weeks, not months
With a composable storefront, commerce businesses can integrate specialized tools at speed and launch new initiatives in weeks, not months. From search engines to IoT services, these specialized tools can be utilized without rebuilding entire platforms and its components.
One customer used IoT to track information of serialized products. When customers registered their serial numbers online, they could view product data via an existing IoT microservice. Instead of rebuilding this from scratch, we connected the IoT APIs directly to the SAP Commerce storefront—reducing effort and making the process more efficient.
Cost efficiency: scale exactly what you need
When it comes to re-architecting, there is an initial investment. Depending on the amount of customizations that have been developed. But in the long run, you can save by only scaling the components that need attention.
If there is a need to make changes to the user interface—potentially replacing the search engine—not all components need to be altered. One customer needed to enhance site search to include product specifications, content articles, user manuals, and more. Instead of customizing their entire system, we brought in a best-of-breed search engine that supported content search. We addressed this issue in a shorter period of time, therefore, the customers had access to their functionality sooner.
Adaptability: ready for what’s next
Composable architecture makes it simple to adopt new technologies—AI capabilities, marketplaces, advanced search—without ripping and replacing the entire system. This approach keeps you competitive while avoiding the technical debt that comes with rigid monolithic systems.
The bottom line
A composable storefront is more than an architectural choice, it’s a strategy for innovation, efficiency, and resilience. In a world where customer expectations and technologies change rapidly, the ability to be agile, cost effective, and adaptable is a competitive advantage you can’t afford to ignore.
