MWC 2024

AI takes the center stage at Mobile World Congress 2024

During the 2024 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, leading technology companies from around the world gathered to unveil their ground-breaking innovations.

The event was framed through a future-first lenses, aiming to address and solve key challenges we are facing today and will face in the future. Discussions ranged from 5G and beyond, to collaborative connectivity networks to the technology reshaping the manufacturing landscape, with the deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its human dimension taking the center stage.

A total of 41 sessions at the MWC were dedicated to AI and its responsible applications. “Humanizing AI” was more than just an event theme; it was a call to action. Throughout the conference program, one question continued to emerge: How do we humanize AI?

Businesses today must recognize the importance of embracing AI responsibly. Central to this is the integration of trust into the very fabric of their operations from the beginning. This entails not only establishing robust AI governance structures but also carefully assessing and mitigating the inherent risks tied to data, models, and potential biases. By prioritizing these considerations, organizations can create an environment of reliability and accountability in their AI endeavors.

Recent showcases at MWC demonstrated how AI will continue to transform industries. Notably, Demis Hassabis of Google DeepMind expressed optimism about AI's ability to speed up drug discovery processes by designing drugs directly in clinics. Samsung announced Galaxy Ring, a smart ring that adds to the AI-powered innovations on display, and Microsoft demonstrated the AI capabilities of Copilot, which enhances efficiency and productivity across popular Microsoft 365 apps.

The potential of AI-driven solutions is an obvious and powerful one and with it, it is becoming increasingly clear that humanizing AI is the foundation for its ethical and mindful integration into business across all industries. There is a growing consensus that the benefits and applications cannot be detached from the notion of responsible technology.
